Bank Street

Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley (HFHMV) held a ground breaking ceremony on Tuesday, June 26th for the new construction house going up on Bank Street in Salem.

The home on Bank Street is our 141st in the Mahoning Valley, keeping with our goal of providing decent housing to low-income families. The home being built is for the Hays Family (Robert & Amanda and their three children). Families must meet HFHMV requirements for income, credit, and willingness to partner.

A majority of funds for this project were acquired during the HFHMV 2017 merge with the Habitat affiliate in Northern Columbiana County. Funds were earmarked for this first build as a merged affiliate that now serves the Mahoning Valley: Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties. Funds were also secured by a Community Housing Impact and Preservation Program (CHIP) Grant from the City of Salem and by the United Way of Northern Columbiana County.

HFHMV will be working on the house on a regular basis each week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Anyone wishing to volunteer with construction build days should contact the HFHMV office. No experience is necessary to help out, all equipment and instruction is provided by HFHMV’s Construction Manager along with several experienced regular volunteers.

Along with Bank Street, Habitat for Humanity also has several other projects going on:

  • Woodbine Avenue in Struthers (Mahoning County, Rehab/Recycle)

  • N. Osborn Avenue in Youngstown (Mahoning County, Rehab)

  • Plaza Rd in Howland (Trumbull County, Rehab/Recycle)

  • SE Hazelwood in Warren (Trumbull County, Rehab/Recycle)
